Better health and a plan to achieve it
About the book
Get fit fast! Six-pack abs in two weeks! Find happiness now! We’ve heard the hype. We’ve watched the infomercials. We all want to believe there is an easy fix-it plan for that extra flab and those seasonal blues. Yet, with all the books we buy and gimmicks we fall for, do we ever reach actual health? Do we ever find the secret to stopping the worry? Or are we missing a piece of this puzzle for a better health? Dr. Hugh Bassham’s „Better Health and a Plan to Achieve It“ is the inspired compilation of his 1993 book, The Search for Total Health, and his 2007 booklet, “A Plan for Better Health.” Bassham’s insight bridges the gap between physical and spiritual equilibrium. It takes a look at how our physical health affects our spiritual well-being and what the Bible says about our fitness, as well as our joy.
Bassham’s analysis is simple and direct, intended to inform and inspire any follower of Christ, or anyone who is looking to improve upon the internal as well as external. There is no hype. There are no overpowering claims or promises. Bassham’s book shows that physical and spiritual health are linked, and how, with better understanding, more awareness, and a proven plan to follow, we can achieve better health.

Customer review of „Better health and a plan to achieve it
Dr. Bassham understands that simplicity is the key to success in any endeavor – easy no, simple yes. While this book is written eloquently, Hugh Bassham keeps it simple. The connection of mind, body, and spirit with a Biblical foundation is the key to his three-legged approach to wellness. I highly recommend his book for those seeking a more excellent way of caring for themselves without all the complications and confusion often found in many wellness books today.

Essay by the author Dr. Hugh Bassham
I’m a veterinarian, and during my career I worked with some 10 different species of animals. And the more I worked with animals, the more I realized I could apply what I was learning to people. Specifically, I confirmed what Hippocrates told us 2,500 years ago – that nutrition is the foundation of health!
This realization is simple and basic, and yet I reaffirmed, by observation and research, that health could be improved by improving nutrition. I realized to that we humans are more than a body, we also have a mind and a spirit! And if we must nourish our body properly to be healthy, shouldn’t we also need to nourish our minds and our spirits properly? After all, we are a 3-part being.
Continuing, in his 1948 book, „Of Flight and Life“, Charles Lindbergh wrote:
The quality of a civilization depends on a balance of body, mind, and spirit in its people, measured on a scale less human than divine. No one of these elements can be greatly overemphasized or neglected without disastrous results.“
And he closed his book in the very last paragraph by saying:
Our salvation, and our only salvation, lies in the balanced qualities of spirit, mind, and body of our people. Without this balance, our military victories can bring no lasting peace, our laws no lasting justice, our science no lasting progress.“
Charles Lindbergh
The more I learned, the more obligated I felt to share what I had learned. So I wrote a book, „The Search for Total Health.“ It was published in 1993, revised and republished in 2010 under a new title, „Better Health and a Plan to Achieve It.“
Better health and a plan to achieve it
And because I felt people everywhere want better health, I had the book displayed in the 2010 Frankfurt International Book Fair and the 2010 Beijing International Book Fair. I did this so that people all over the world could learn what I had learned.
One more thing. Visualization, the formation of mental images, is a powerful concept. For example, if you visualize a 3-legged stool (or a picture of one) it can remind you to properly nourish your body, mind, and spirit, and to work to achieve balance between all 3 parts. Thus, over time, you can develop better health, and help others do the same.
In health and wellness,
Dr. Hugh Bassham
